Antarctica is one of the most incredible places in the world, and being able to visit the area is a treat in the first place.  However, there is also a lot of pressure to take great photos to show your friends and family upon your return home.  Luckily for everyone visiting there are some quick and easy tips that will ensure that you take the best photos possible regardless of the type of camera that you use.

The first thing you need to do is a little bit of research.  By simply picking up the latest travel photography ebook or taking a couple photography classes you will already be a step ahead.  Make sure you understand your camera and all it’s functionality.  It is something so simply, but so many people fail to read their own camera manuals.

The next thing you need to do is to understand how to take photos of the wildlife.  The biggest tip that I can suggest is to get to the eye level of the animal you are photographing.  If you don’t do this it will make the animals look small and lifeless.  If you want great photos of penguins then you need to get down at least to a knee to shoot them at their eye level.  This will give them a completely powerful dimension.

The last tip is simple: have fun!  You are not trying to shoot a calendar of Antarctica you are on vacation.  Take the views in and revel in the beauty of this amazing place.  Yes it is true that you want to capture all the beauty in order to show your friends and family back home.  But you don’t travel for other people, you travel for yourself.  Don’t forget to enjoy the moment or the pictures you take will never be able to take you back when you look at them down the line.
