El Calafate In Patagonia, Argentina

January 12th, 2012

El Calafate is a small town situated in Patagonia, one of Argentina’s most renowned regions. The town’s name was derived from calafate, a small bush common in the region and is characterized by dark blue berries and yellow flowers. El Calafate is one of the most frequented destinations throughout the country. A major tourist attraction in town is the Los Glaciares National Park where you can see Cerro Chalten and Cerro Torre. The highlight of the national park however is the Perito Moreno Glacier which continues to puzzle scientists even to this day because it is the only glacier in the world that continues to expand instead of receding.
