Budget Travel Online Resources

There are lots of conventional budget travel resources. Chief among these are guidebooks like Lonely Planet. Their series of books about destinations on a shoestring budget has been very helpful to me over the course of my traveling career. Recently, I have been using the Internet a lot more to track down reliable and up to date information and to learn about the latest budget travel tips and techniques.
Lonely Planet of course has their own website with a number of resources on it, but I’ve found individual travel bloggers to be the best for finding insider information that is both interesting and reliable. The website How to Budget Travel has been a favorite of mine for some time. I highly recommend this site for some great informational and tip-based articles when it comes to budget travel topics.
Another great idea for finding insider information is to run a search engine query by typing in the name of your destination and budget travel blog. This will help filter out your results and you may locate a travel blog that has exactly what you are looking for. Another website that has incredible local information is the site Budget your Trip. I used this to budget for my travels throughout Asia. Thankfully, that part of the world calls for a very small amount of money as an independent traveler.
I use other online resources for budget travel, such as message boards and forums. These are great places to find current information and you can see different points of view. Someone might prefer one restaurant for its value, but other people may chime and say that the restaurant is cheap, but the quality is poor. I always try to find something affordable, but quality is also important to me. In fact, there are many times where i cave and spend the extra money for something special. It all depends on the limits of your budget and your particular priorities.
