Chandler
has lived in the American West all his life. He has spent over 20
years exploring, roaming and photographing remote and spacious desert
lands far removed from people and things. Rejecting the over photographed
and over trodden, his large format panoramic photographs celebrate
and honor landscapes that are largely unknown, unrecognized and
undeveloped.
His
goal as a photographer is to "disappear" secretly into
obscure domains and record where soul and spirit merge. Striving
to enter a world apart, he seeks the enchantment of nature when
it takes form in delicious emptiness and silence. The vast privacy
contained within spacious earthen playas and glistening flats, where
dark desert mountain crags pierce stormy blazes of atmospheric splendor,
is where he dwells.
Chandler
does not attempt to depict pretty or intimate images. He seeks to
photograph infinite space, incomprehensible vastness and wild and
unpredictable atmospheric conditions.
He makes his home on the edge of Nevada's Black Rock and Smoke Creek
Deserts. Remaining true to his need for the wild and remote, his
first love and only priority is being and creating within the land
itself. He lives its space, freedom and beauty.
